Brian Johnson - Happy Birthday!
Brian Johnson – Born in Dunston, Gateshead on October 5th 1947 and turns 64 today – Happy Birthday Jonna!
Best known for his day job as AC/DC’s charismatic flat-capped singer since 1980, Brian is also an automobile collector and has a passion for all things automotive – including racing antique cars. Next year Brian is due to compete in the Rolex24 at Daytona, an event famous for challenging the endurance of both car and driver.
But that’s not where Brian’s talent ends since he has also become an author, writing his own memoir which is packed with hair-raising anecdotes and reveals a god-given talent for comic writing on every page.
Although Brian is a fit 64-year-old he had a major health scare in 2009 which required minor surgical intervention and which forced AC/DC to reschedule six gigs. In an interview with Reader’s Digest, Brian was asked: “What’s good about getting older?” to which he replied: “You start appreciating things more. You appreciate that you’ve been lucky in life. You appreciate the good things in life, such as your family and that your fans have stuck with you.”
In more recent news, Brian was present for the May 6th Premiere of the DVD release of "Live at River Plate" along with his other AC/DC bandmates. Brian has also become patron of Livewire, a UK based youth music project which is a registered charity. Previous notable patrons of Livewire include Jimmy Page, Motörhead, Pete Townshend, Thin Lizzy, Judas Priest, Bullet For My Valentine, Enter Shikari and Biffy Clyro.
Brian was interviewed early in 2009 from which the subject of retirement was raised. In the interview Brian said that he didn’t want to hold the band back or be thought of as being “carried” by the band, however this notion was dismissed at the time by Malcolm Young. In a recent interview with Sky News Brian denied he was thinking of hanging up his legendary flat cap and quitting saying: "No, never. Not as long as I can still walk and sing. I should think we'll be back absolutely."
Keep rockin' Jonna!
