Cliff Williams turns 62 - Happy Birthday!
Born on this day - December 14th - 1949, AC/DC's bassist since 1977, Cliff Williams celebrates his 62nd birthday today.
Cliff Williams was born in Romford, Essex and moved to Liverpool with his family in 1961 when he was eleven. It was during the Merseybeat era, infamous for a new wave of sound produced by bands which came from the area around the early 60's and included The Beatles and Gerry & The Pacemakers amongst others and is what inspired Cliff Williams to become part of a band.
In an interview with Bass Frontiers Cliff cited The Rolling Stones, The Beatles (McCartney) and James Jamerson as his musical influences.
Recently described by AC/DC frontman Brian Johnson as being part of the "engine room", Cliff regards his style as basic - and for the most part, Cliff's role in AC/DC is to provide steady but basic bass lines which follow the rhythm guitar of Malcolm Young.
In an interview with Artisan News, Cliff was asked what he would do with his spare time between touring with AC/DC to which he replied "relaxing and fishing".
Happy Birthday Cliff!
