“Let There Be Rock”, the AC/DC concert documentary that was filmed December 1979 at the Pavillion De Paris, will receive its long-awaited DVD release in January 2011. Eddie Trunk, the co-host of the VH1 Classic television program “That Metal Show”, was interviewed about the band’s impact for one of the DVD’s bonus features. He writes on his blog, “[The company which is releasing the DVD is] doing some cleanups to the audio and video and making it as high-def as the source will allow.” He adds, “I can tell you I have an advance and it looks and sounds great, but they are making it even better!”

According to the All Music Guide, “Let There Be Rock” was released in France a year after it was filmed, though American release was delayed until well after the band had established themselves in the States with new vocalist Brian Johnson and the multi-platinum success of the “Back In Black” album.

In his review of the original “Let There Be Rock” film, Fred Beldin of the All Music Guide writes, “Director Eric Dionysis captures the excitement of the live show with an energetic style and effective close-up shots, though the staged interviews and sub-’The Song Remains The Same’ fantasy sequences show the band to be bemused but not convinced by these attempts to add some arty depth to the proceedings. The highlight of the extracurricular segments is Bon Scott, radiating warmth and humility in these last interviews before his untimely death at age 33 from alcohol poisoning.”

AC/DC Let There Be Rock
3/24/10: Forgot to mention that this past Monday I was interviewed for the DVD issue of AC/DC's classic 1979 concert film Let There Be Rock. I kind of let the cat out of the bag a few months ago when I mentioned here that this was coming out finally on DVD, but I was never told it was a secret, so kind of broke the news without intending to. But the folks putting it out were cool and happy for the publicity this blog generated about it. I can now tell you that the release of the DVD has been pushed back to probably January 2011. They are doing some clean ups to the audio and video and making it as high def as the source will allow. I can tell you I have an advance and it looks and sounds great, but they are making it even better! This is just a phenomenal document of the last tour with Bon and it's so cool to have been asked to contribute to it. I will be interviewed about the impact of the band as one of the DVDs bonus features. So it's real and it's coming, just going to need to wait a bit longer, but trust me it will be worth it.

Now they are saying there is a link at ACDC.com which is incorrect, so it could be we are awaiting details of how much *NEW* footage will be included in the DVD. The French directors had dozens of hours which has never been released.

ACDC.COM WE ARE ALL STANDING TO ATTENTION - WAITING FOR DETAILS - SOMEBODY WAKE 'EM UP OVER THERE!

They haven't updated their news section in over a month now. looks like they have shut shop and turned off the lights. The DVD cover pic which someone took off a forum is probably fake. The DVD logo is old...

From the DVD standards authority (DVD FLLC)

New Logos

DVD is a growing, expanding media, which is constantly moving to include newer and better ideas. This means that the Logo must grow and expand as well. Since November 1999, we have introduced new application Logos. Formerly, the disc-shaped ovals below the stylised DVD characters contained words to indicate the Format of the product; now, the words appear either under the disc or beside the Logo.

looking at AC/DC Live / Plug etc. the new logo is the standard. WB's film 'Inception' also has the new DVD vid logo so it's unlikely WB would make such an amateurish mistake IMO...nice graphic though.

The DVD is coming though. people like Susan and Eddie Trunk are not apt to make this stuff up. We also had a visit from WB corp (the legit own IP corp in LA) so patience is the key. Worst case scenario is the project got shelved like the cards - but that is unlikely.
