AC/DC 'Flick of the Switch' Tour Begins 1983
AC/DC - ON THIS DAY in 1983 'Flick of the Switch' tour kicked off at Vancouver's Pacific National Exhibition Coliseum supporting the album released August 19. The band's lineup included Brian Johnson, Malcolm Young, Angus Young, Cliff Williams and Simon Wright (replacing Phil Rudd on drums and who remained behind the drum kit for the next three albums before his departure in 1989).
The North American tour concluded on December 19th at Madison Square Garden and AC/DC were supported throughout the tour by British heavy metal band Fastway. The tour had not been the runaway success of previous tours, with some of the 35 North American gigs down to half capacity. The following year AC/DC only played ten further gigs including performances at seven of the gigs on the European Monsters of Rock circuit at Castle Donington/England, Stockholm/Sweden, Winterthur/Switzerland, Karlsruhe and Nuremberg/German and Rome and Turin/Italy.
Several songs from the AC/DC produced album made it onto the setlist including: 'Flick of the Switch', 'Guns for Hire', and 'This House is on Fire' (alternating with 'Rising Power', 'Bedlam In Belgium' and 'Landslide' which also made the setlist at some venues).
